Carnoustie is one of the most accessible Open championship venues in Scotland. This course has been described as the 'supreme test', and was praised by Walter Hagan as the greatest golf course in the British Isles and one of the top three in the world.

The course layout rewards good play and punishes poor play severely. What makes it so great is its vastness, length and the scale of severity of its hazards.

The Championship course is a mighty links. In 2007 Carnoustie became the longest ever course in British Open Championship history at 7,421 yards.

The Carnoustie Championship course has witnessed some magnificent moments of golfing history, including the victory of Ben Hogan in 1953 - his only visit to the Open Championship. The two most recent occasions on which the British Open has been held at Carnoustie have seen dramatic events on the final day, including Padraig Harrington's victory over Sergio Garcia in a four hole play-off earlier this year.

One of the course signature holes at Carnoustie is the 14th hole, 'Spectacles' which is a par 5 from the medal tees. The hole gets its name from the two massive bunkers which threaten the approach shot to the green.

The Carnoustie course record is 64 and is shared by the Scottish golfers Pawl Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie and Alan Tait, along with Richard Green and Peter O'Malley of Australia and Steve Stricker of the United States.

Carnoustie is one of the three golf courses used for the Dunhill Links championship, alongside Kingsbarns Links and the Old Course, St Andrews.

Pit yourself against the big one during your golfing vacation!

With two sister courses, the Burnside and the Buddon, Carnoustie Links also offers excellent value combination tickets and it not even necessary to play both golf courses on the same day. For those who do not feel up to the challenge of the Championship course, why not still experience golf here by playing the Burnside and the short Buddon course?
